Check out the recent Huffington Post article The Big Password Mistake That Hackers Are Hoping You'll Make by Jeff Fox that talks about the need to "avoid a little-known mistake recently uncovered by password researchers" (i.e., the overuse of common password patterns (or topologies) by users as they create their passwords). This article references some of the conclusions that came out of our PathWell (Password Topology Histogram Wear-Leveling) project, which was sponsored by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) in 2013 under its Cyber FastTrack program.
